처음 부팅하면 저해상도로 뜨고 리부팅하면 정상 해상도로 뜹니다.
Radeon 7000에 1920*1200으로 해 놓고 씁니다. 우분투 8.10 입니다.
Compiz 등은 사용하지 않습니다.

xorg.conf

파일을 편집하셔야 할 듯 싶습니다.

Option "DPMS"

이런식으로 직접 님의 모니터에 맞는 수직 및 수평 주파수를 입력해보세요.
그리고 해상도는

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "Configured Video Device"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Defaultdepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
EndSubSection
EndSection

요런식으로 Modes에 사용할 해상도는 넣어주세요.
